Local treatment facilities are large-scale complexes designed to process effluent from industrial, domestic, and private sources. Located outside residential areas, these installations are operated by trained personnel and monitored through automated control systems.

Biological treatment units are specialized tanks that use bacteria to purify wastewater. Integrated into centralized or local treatment systems, biofilters also contain filtering materials that capture coarse impurities.
